Event Overview

Interruptions to learning come in all forms. The unprecedented Spring 2015 snowfall caused significant disruptions to course schedules and created transportation challenges that made it impossible to navigate one’s way to the classroom. Faculty scrambled to make up for lost time by condensing lectures and/or eliminating assignments; others scrambled to offer just-in-time online learning opportunities. But the disruption to learning continuity is more often caused by less calamitous events such as unexpected illnesses, faculty commitments, etc. How can we prepare for unexpected disruptions while ensuring the continuity of learning for our students?

We will share insights and lessons learned:
• Supporting faculty with diverse levels of technology comfort
• Responding to technology usage mandates
• Leveraging “disruption” faculty development opportunities to support continued use of technology-enabled student-centered learning activities

Session Outcomes - Participants will:
• Discuss technologies that support just-in-case and just-in-time assignments
• Develop a list of faculty and student support strategies
• Create their own “just-in-case/just-in-time” workshop outline
