Event Overview

Flipping the classroom was a top trend for 2014 and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. What does flipping a classroom really entail? What technologies are available to support the process of developing and maintaining flipped curriculum?

This workshop is a cooperative space to untangle the confusing popular culture surrounding the flipped classroom, providing clear steps and important pedagogy that will help faculty, instructional designers, technologists and IT explore possibilities for increasing student interactivity and engagement. Opportunities will be available to discuss ideas behind a flipped course as well including student-centered learning, advantages of chunking videos, transactional distance, the importance of time and preparation for production, screen-casting platforms, and what role IT plays.

Session Outcomes: Flipping the classroom has proven to be an effective learning experience. This workshop will explore the nature of "flipped" teaching, effective application, technology needs and institutional support systems.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- describe best practices for flipping the classroom and using multimedia
- analyze effective uses of classroom time
- synthesize best technologies which support the flipped classroom
- evaluate the support system that needs to be in place for flipped classrooms

Takeaway:
Participants will be able to share their Flipped stories and resources with each other which will lead to networking opportunities.
