From Geek Squad to Genius Bar: Breaking free from the Break/Fix Model

Speaker: Liz Hamblett

Liz Hamblett is the Director of User Support at Assumption College, where she oversees the teams that manage the help desk, lab and classroom technology, desktop technology, and instructional technology. Previously, from 2012-2013, she was the training specialist at Assumption College. She has worked in the IT user support industry for the past fourteen years. She has worked and lead user support departments in retail environments, corporate environments, elementary school environments, and higher education environments. Specifically while working in the retail, corporate, and higher education environments, she managed user support departments that specialized in creating a proactive and education driven user experience.


Speaker: Matthew Maderos

With over 20 years of IT experience in Higher Education, Matt is currently the Associate Director of Client Services for the Boston University Medical Campus overseeing the Service Desk, and desktop support. Prior to BU Matt was the Assistant Director of Support Services at the Mass College of Art and Design for 6 years, At MassArt, Matt implemented Footprints as their first ticketing system and created the first 9-5, fully-staffed helpdesk.
Prior to MassArt, Matt spent 12 years with Bridgewater State College where he started out as a support technician and progressed to managing desktop services and led a successfully implementation of their campus-wide student laptop initiative.

Matt has a Master’s of Science in Management (with a concentration in Technology Management), and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science, both from Bridgewater State. He’s been an active presenter at NERCOMP Professional talks as well as been active on the Annual NERCOMP Conference committee.

Matthew Maderos is currently the Associate Director of Client Services for the Boston University Medical Campus. Overseeing the Service Desk, and Technicians, besides IT Matt keeps busy keeping up with his two boys ages 4 and 8.


Speaker: Bill Murphy

Bill is currently the Technology Center Manager at Quinnipiac University. He is responsible for the operation of the combined Help Desk and Media Services area on all 3 of QU’s Campuses and is in charge of the Student Worker Program. Bill has his Bachelors and Masters from Quinnipiac and has been working for QU since 2007.


Speaker: Martin Schreiner

Martin Schreiner is Head of Maps, Media, Data and Government Information in the Harvard Library of Harvard University. He is also team leader and a founding member of the Expanding the Boundaries of Authorship group in Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and co-chair of the Digital Futures Consortium at Harvard.
