Event Overview
In today’s diverse workplaces, meetings and projects should be inclusive and accessible to ensure full participation and engagement. This workshop combines Universal Design (UD) principles and the Liberating Structures model to explore practical strategies for creating more inclusive and accessible meetings, gatherings, and project plans. Participants will learn how to identify and remove barriers to participation, apply UD principles to their meetings, and develop a tailored action plan to enhance accessibility and inclusion in their own settings. The session includes individual reflection, group discussions, and hands-on activities, ensuring that participants leave with concrete steps to implement these practices in their organizations.
As pre-work, participants should identify a meeting or event and a project or group they are involved in as a leader or member. This will serve as the foundation for the action plan developed during the workshop.
Session Outcomes:
Participants will be able to:
- Understand and Apply UD Principles by articulating the main principles of Universal Design and identifying ways to apply these to all aspects of meetings and project planning, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity from start to finish.
- Identify and Overcome Barriers by learning to recognize physical, communication, and organizational barriers to accessibility and inclusion and developing strategies to address these within their meetings and projects.
- Create a Tailored Action Plan by developing a customized action plan for a current project or meeting group, incorporating collaborative techniques and inclusive practices that can be implemented within their organizations to foster a sense of belonging and engagement.
