Event Overview
Faculty: I would love to do this but...
IT: We have technology, but...

Those of us at smaller institutions, or, indeed, any of us at institutions experiencing increasing constraints – real and perceived, struggle to foster innovation. The default tendency – to settle for the status quo – inhibits our ability to meet the changing needs of our students. In this session, we will explore case studies that demonstrate the power of collaboration to extend limited resources and thinking. Given financial and other restrictions at our institutions, how do engaged faculty and IT stay empowered to creatively and impactfully work together to support student learning? How do we learn how to speak one another's language?

In this session, we will discuss case studies that demonstrate the power of collaboration to extend limited resources and encourage an innovate mindset. We will share strategies to foster innovation, mitigate barriers – real and perceived – the faculty/IT cultural divide. Participants will be invited to share their own collaboration strategies and best practices.

Session Outcomes:
- Identify and discuss the barriers to teaching and learning innovation, including communication, money, and support.
- Brainstorm strategies to surmount barriers to innovation.
- Develop a plan for a collaborative project at your institution that addresses barriers.
