Event Overview
Educational technology and teaching support professionals are increasingly being asked to take on “other duties as assigned” — the often invisible, unexpected, and emotionally demanding work that extends far beyond formal job descriptions. Combined with understaffing and growing demands, this "role ambiguity" can contribute to burnout, fatigue, and staff turnover across higher education.
This Thought Partner Program creates a supportive space for NERCOMP members to engage in honest, peer-based conversations about the realities of workload expansion, burnout, and balancing competing expectations. Through informal discussion and shared experiences, participants will explore the hidden value of this “extra” work, gain practical strategies for navigating role ambiguity, and leave with a stronger sense of community and reassurance that they are not alone.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will:
- Identify common contributors to burnout, role creep, and workload ambiguity within educational technology and teaching support roles.
- Reflect on the hidden labor and value often embedded within “other duties as assigned” responsibilities.
- Explore practical strategies for setting boundaries, fostering resilience, and building peer support networks within higher education environments.
Note: These sessions will not be recorded. To prioritize group connection and experience, participants will have the option to turn on their cameras and microphones during the sessions.
