EDUCAUSE-NERCOMP Workshop Series for New Managers - Hybrid Course 2019

Speaker: Frank Furnari

Frank is the Communication, Documentation, and Training Manager for Boston University’s Information Services & Technology. His team is involved in all aspects of IT-related communication and training efforts both for IT staff as well as for BU’s client community. Frank started working at BU in 1999 as a student employee and has had a variety of responsibilities over the years. Frank most recently was the Service Desk Manager for BU Medical Campus IT. During his tenure at BU, he’s helped manage three Exchange migrations and three Service Desk ticketing software implementations. He is a trained facilitator, Six Sigma Green Belt, and has earned both HDI Support Center Manager and ITIL Foundations certifications. Frank holds a BA and MBA from BU. Frank has served on the board of The Wellesley Players, a community theatre based in Wellesley, MA, managing the theatre’s box office and social media presence. In addition, Frank works on various technical aspects of shows with the Wellesley Players and other theatres in the area.
 

Speaker: Joanne Kossuth

Currently Joanne acts as the Chief Information Officer for Mitchell College with responsibility for academic, administrative, and enterprise computing and library information services. Joanne also serves as principal in her consulting services company, 1MountainRoad. 1MountainRoad specializes in strategic business process re-engineering; aspirant and leadership development; human capital management and team building; and collaboration and services implementations.

As Olin College's Vice President for Operations and CIO, Ms. Kossuth had primary responsibility for the operational and technology areas of the college. These included: conference services, dining services, facilities, human resources, information technology, planning and project management, public safety. In addition to her operations duties, she was responsible for building relationships with neighboring institutions, including Babson, Brandeis, and Wellesley Colleges. Ms. Kossuth founded and convened the External Technology Advisory Board and the Olin Innovation Lab.

Her IT leadership led to her being named one of Computerworld's Premiere 100 CIOs in 2005. She received the EDUCAUSE Community Leadership Award, 2014. Joanne's previous experience includes positions at Fisher College, Wheelock College and the Boston University School of Management. Her publications include: "Attracting Women to Technical Professions," and "Building Relationships Means Better IT Contracts," “The Converged Workplace” and Chapter 32 or “Olin College: Academic and Olin Centers” in the EDUCAUSE E-Book “Learning Spaces.” , Ms Kossuth continues to provide service and leadership to EDUCAUSE and CLIR as the Dean of the Leading Change Institute and to NERCOMP as the co-founder of the EDUCAUSE NERCOMP IT Manager Workshop Series. She was selected as a member of Juniper Network's Higher Education Advisory Board, Plantronics Unified Communications Advisory Board, and E&I's Technology Strategy Team.


Speaker: Mimi Royston

Mimi is the Chief Information Officer at American International College. Ms. Royston is an experienced leader with a strong technical background, developed over the past 20 years as an information technology professional. She has both depth and breadth in IT management and operational experience in the following areas: networking, server management, security, helpdesk, desktop support, training, grant writing, web support and instructional technology. Mimi holds an M.B.A. from Assumption College in 2005 and maintains her CISSP certification.

Mimi is responsible for leading the AIC Information Technology staff and the wide range of services IT delivers to the college community in the areas of instructional and administrative information systems, infrastructure, technology support, and IT-related innovation. She is leading the development of a shared vision for technology that supports American International College's mission and will establish and execute strategies to achieve that vision in a collaborative, transparent, and cost-effective way.


Speaker: Colleen Wheeler

Colleen loves helping people learn, and has been doing just that in a wide variety of environments for more than thirty years. Her favorite work is facilitating growth at the intersection of creativity and technology.

Colleen served NERCOMP’s community as a Board member, officer, and committee chair overseeing programming and membership education. She helped institute a unique and successful caucus-based, all-volunteer program of instructional workshops, and personally led numerous professional development workshops.

She co-founded The New Manager Series (Parts I and II), the Learning Organization Academy, and The Susan Vogt Leadership Fellows Program (Boston Consortium for Higher Education).

Colleen holds degrees from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, and was a fellow at the Frye Leadership Institute and the Klingenstein Summer Teaching Institute. She has worked in technology and education at Wheaton College (MA), The Massachusetts Corporation for Educational Technology, and as a teacher in private and public schools for wonderful students in grades 6-12. She is especially proud that her high school students awarded her a Golden Apple Teaching Award.

Colleen is an active trombone teacher and performer in the Boston area.
