Event Overview
AI technologies are only as unbiased as the data and systems behind them, which often reflect societal inequalities. In this interactive webinar, participants will explore how bias manifests in AI and collaborate to develop strategies for identifying and reducing its impact. From institutional practices to teaching, publishing, and administrative use, this session offers practical guidance for higher education professionals seeking to use AI responsibly. Attendees will leave with a set of draft guidelines tailored to their roles and contexts.
This NERCOMP Thought Partner Program promotes collaborative learning and discussion among its members, with a focus on AI in higher education. Thought Partner Programs are sessions that focus on trending topics and are less formal and more conversational, with all attendees contributing knowledge and resources.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Recognize and describe how bias appears in AI tools and outputs.
- Develop context-specific approaches to reduce or counteract AI bias in their work.
- Critically evaluate and refine proposed solutions to ensure ethical and equitable AI use.
