Event Overview
Moodle’s flexibility and extensibility are two primary reasons why it is an extremely popular learning management system, yet one consequence of this design, particularly in an open-source environment, is increased complexity and a lack of centralized knowledge regarding best practices. Useful information is spread out among first and third-party documentation, discussion boards, newsletters, tutorial sites, and – crucially – practitioners and managers at institutions that use Moodle. What seems intuitive at one school, for example, may be unknown to other users.
The purpose of this meeting is to “return to the fundamentals,” presenting and discussing tips, tricks, simple hacks, useful plugins, configuration settings, workflow recommendations, and other immediately applicable information that can be readily adopted.
Two questions that we plan to actively consider are:
1) what are the core tools, settings, and workflow processes that staff and faculty consider indispensable when working with Moodle, and
2) in what ways are they used within Moodle to improve or facilitate administration, faculty adoption and support, active learning, and pedagogical outcomes for students?
