NEW NERCOMP CLASS (Collaborate, Listen, Accelerate, Share & Support): Developing a Digital Credential Program

Sherri Braxton

Dr. Sherri Braxton is the inaugural Senior Director for Digital Innovation at Bowdoin College. By way of partnerships across the college, she leads efforts to identify, prioritize and pursue opportunities for digital innovation impacting both curricular and co-curricular learning spaces. Her work also extends to developing partnerships and collaborative initiatives with peers at other institutions as well as establishing new consortia relationships to prepare and position Bowdoin for the academic transformation on the horizon in the K-16 education landscape.  

Dr. Braxton was a task force co-lead for the 1EdTech (formerly the IMS Global Consortium) Open Badge Extensions for Education (OBEE) initiative to identify new extensions for the Open Badges 2.0 Specification and recently served as the co-chair of the Open Badges 3.0 working group.  She currently serves as co-chair of the Digital Credentials Innovation Leadership Network and participates in the Digital Credentials Project Group and the Digital Credentials Product Steering Committee. Additionally, she is a member of the Governing Body of Arizona State University’s Trusted Learner Network and the co-chair of the NorthEast Regional Computing Program (NERCOMP) Digital Credentials Sub-committee. She has authored book chapters, blogs, and whitepapers on both digital credential program design and implementation and the comprehensive learner record. 

 Dr. Braxton holds a Doctor of Science in Computer Science from The George Washington University with a double minor in Management Science and Educational Leadership. She holds a Master of Science in Computer Science with a Mathematics minor from North Carolina State University and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a Computer Science minor from Wake Forest University. Dr. Braxton is also a graduate of both the MOR Associates Information Technology Leadership Program and the EDUCAUSE Learning Technology Leaders Institute where she also served as a faculty member and co-director. 
 

Kelly Hoyland

Kelly Hoyland serves as the director for higher education at 1EdTech where she works with members to meet the challenges they face in the rapidly growing and evolving digital teaching and learning landscape. This includes working across K-12, higher education, and corporate education to make life achievements more accessible, personalized, and equitable from the start for every learner. 
 
Kelly began her career in K-12 education where she served in roles as teacher, virtual school coordinator, and technology director. She then transitioned to higher education as the Director of Learning & Client Technology Services at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, where her department was responsible for supporting academic technology and end-user support. Her focus has been to find ways to use technology to support teaching and learning.
 

Amber O'Casey

Amber O’Casey is an Instructional Designer focused on the development of digital credentials. She serves the Alamo Colleges District and its five colleges: Northeast Lakeview College, Northwest Vista College, Palo Alto College, St. Philip’s College, and San Antonio College. Her goal is to scale opportunities for students to earn marketable skills badges and increase their competitiveness in the job market. 
 

Collin Sullivan

Collin Sullivan is the Coordinator of Digital Credentialing at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). In this role, he works with campus partners to offer high-quality microcredentials from courses, programs, or activities that offer authentic learning experiences and promote lifelong learning. In particular, Collin's work in digital credentialing emphasizes extracurricular and service learning experiences whereby students gain meaningful competencies that may not be recorded on a traditional transcript. He is co-chair of 1EdTech's Digital Credential Innovation Leadership Network. Collin earned his Master of Public Policy with a specialization in higher education from UMBC.
