Michael J. Daly

As Assistant Professor, Instruction/Public Services Librarian at FM’s Evans Library, Michael V. Daly coordinates and leads the Evans Library’s Information Literacy program including the teaching of over 100 sessions a year for courses covering the entirety of FM’s curriculum. He serves as a library liaison to Health Professions, Humanities, and Social Sciences Divisions.

During 2017-2018 he is also serving as an Open Education Resources (OER) mentor for SUNY OER Services, working with SUNY institutions and faculty to adopt OER as a means of decreasing the cost of attending college, increasing access to learning materials, and furthering completion rates.

A sharer and carer, Mike is a frequent presenter at local, state and national conferences on the topics of active teaching and learning, OER and the role technology plays in pedagogy. Highlights of his conference presentations in the past year:

 An active participant in shared governance at FM, Mike currently serves a Senator representing Student and Academic Services Faculty on the College Senate He has served as FM’s alternate delegate to the Faculty Council of Community Colleges, Vice-Chair and Chair of the College Senate. He has served on FM’s Institutional Assessment Committee, Student Life Committee which he chaired, the ad-hoc Academic Integrity Committee, and as an advisor for Phi Theta Kappa’s (PTK) Alpha Alpha Upsilon Chapter at FM. He is the campus co-representative for SUNY’s Faculty Council on Teaching and Technology (FACT2), the past Co-Chair for SUNY’s Working Group for Information Literacy, and a member of both the SUNY Librarians Association and Association of College and Research Libraries.

During 2015-2016, Mike was the campus lead for FM’s participation in SUNY’s Innovative Instruction Technology Grant project, “SUNY Open Educational Resources: Improving Faculty Discovery and Adoption.” and served as FM’s campus fellow for the SUNY Tools of Engagement Project (TOEP). He was the grant recipient and Co-Principal Investigator for SUNY’s IITG funded-project, “Developing a SUNY-wide Transliteracy Learning Collaborative to Promote Information and Technology Collaboration” in 2013 and the grant recipient for Empire State College’s Partners in Innovation and Leadership in Online Teaching Project (PILOT) in 2012.

Mike earned a B.A. in English from Union College and an M.S.I.S. from University at Albany and has completed graduate coursework toward a M.A. in English. He is a 2010 graduate of Association of College Research Libraries Immersion Program for Instructional Librarians and holds a certificate in Online Instructional Design from Open SUNY.
