Project Management in Higher Ed: Common Challenges and Ways to Overcome Them!
Speaker: S. Terry Ballantyne
Terry Ballantyne is Director of Enterprise Solutions at Wellesley College. As a member of the senior leadership team in Library and Technology Services (LTS), Terry is responsible for the development, maintenance and integration of most enterprise applications that support the College's academic programs, administrative operations and student residential life. She leads or oversees management of major institutional and divisional/departmental technology projects (e.g., identity management, portals, imaging, Business Intelligence, etc.) and allocates resources to meet institutional technology priorities. Terry represents the Library and Technology Services Team on the College's Project Prioritization Advisory Committee. She also represents Wellesley at national conferences and consortia, was the founder of the New England Technical Conference and has facilitated, organized and presented to technical groups at Nercomp, Sungard Summit and the New England Banner User Group. Terry holds a Master of Science in Management Degree from Lesley University and a Bachelor of Education Degree from McGill University and is currently pursuing a Graduate Certificate in Project Management from Boston University.
Speaker: Susan Zaslaw
Susan Zaslaw is the Director of IT Project Services in the Information Technology Services division at Dartmouth College, which is located in Hanover, New Hampshire. She obtained her PMP® certification in 2011, is ITIL® Foundations certified, and has been a practicing project manager at Dartmouth for over ten years. She received her BA degree from Norwich University in Vermont. Ms. Zaslaw specializes in enterprise IT projects and has managed several large-scale initiatives at Dartmouth such as a campus-wide email system implementation and more recently, the replacement of Dartmouth’s learning management system. She has been active in promoting effective project management practices within higher education through conference presentations and professional development workshops. Before becoming a project manager, Ms. Zaslaw managed a team of business analysts in Dartmouth’s Administrative Computing department. Prior to Dartmouth, she worked in the banking industry for twelve years, in the San Diego area where she grew up. Ms. Zaslaw now lives with her husband and two youngest children in Hanover, New Hampshire, where she enjoys gardening, cooking and a variety of outdoor activities.
