Sakai User Group: Beyond Implementation: Sakai in Production

Speaker: Adam Hauerwas

From the TI 99/4A to the latest iPhone, Adam Hauerwas has worked with many computer systems. For more than ten years he has worked at Providence College managing their public Windows lab computers and Learning Mangement systems, and thinks that most problems can be solved with a batch script. When he’s not playing with computers he plays Words With Friends, he’s a big fan of “Iron Chef” and “Chopped,” and he enjoys cooking with his wife and two sons. 


Speaker: David Hirsch

David Hirsch is Director of Academic IT Strategy at Yale University, where he formulates and directs strategic planning for technology solutions that support teaching, learning and research. Since 2005 he has led Yale's deployment of Sakai ("Classes*v2"), and for eleven years was Associate Director of the Center for Media and Instructional Innovation, where he managed the development of projects including Open Yale Courses. Before coming to Yale in 2002, he worked at Northeastern University's Educational Technology Center and served as a course developer and manager of faculty training for Harcourt Higher Education, the first fully online university licensed by the State of Massachusetts. He holds a Ph.D. in English and American Literature from Harvard University.


Speaker: Neal Hirsig

Neal is a Senior Lecturer at Tufts University and teaches an online course in 3D modeling and design using the Sakai Collaborative learning Environment. He is also part of the Trunk (Sakai) support team, Tufts Technology Services, Learning Management System.


Speaker: Will Humphries

Will Humphries is a Senior Software Engineer at Tufts University. He is the principal developer for Tufts' instance of Sakai CLE. He also worked on Sakai at Virginia Tech, where he received a BS and MS in Computer Science. Will worked to move teaching evaluations online, using the Sakai Evaluation tool, at both universities.


Speaker: Stephen Jaegle

Stephen Jaegle is a Lead Programmer/Analyst at the University of Rhode Island, primarily focused on Sakai development. He modifies Sakai according to URI requirements, integrates third party tools, and creates custom tools. He supports Sakai at the programming level, and supported WebCT prior to the transition from WebCT to Sakai. He is also responsible for integration between PeopleSoft and Sakai.


Speaker: Reba-Anna Lee

Dr. Reba-Anna Lee is currently the Associate Director of Academic Technology and eLearning at Marist College. A California native, Dr. Lee has relocated to the New York Hudson Valley area. Her extensive background includes over 10 years of K-12 experience as well as 6 years of higher education administrative and teaching experience.

Dr. Lee's interest span from electronic portfolios to faculty technology. Dr. Lee is also interested in the research of online environments, training faculty, and innovative technology use in the classroom.

 
Speaker: Jim Mezzanotte

I've been involved with Sakai for the last four years. At rSmart, my focus is on improving the Sakai user experience, creating user guidance for faculty and students as well as for Sakai administrators.

A favorite part of my job is finding new ways to use Sakai for teaching and learning. I also enjoy being part of such a diverse and collaborative open source community, and contributing to the ongoing evolution of Sakai.
 

Speaker: MacKenzie Stewart

MacKenzie Stewart is an Instructional Technologist in Research & Instructional Services at Wellesley College.

He assists faculty and students with technology for teaching and learning, provides technical assistance with systems such as Sakai, Kaltura and Drupal. He has many years of experience in higher education, as well as information architecture, database design, metadata, & digitization. He holds a BA in Russian and Spanish from SUNY Oswego.
