Event Overview
If it's one thing we learned over the past 2 years is that online learning works! And our students want multi-modal learning environments and robust, fully-loaded learning management systems (LMS) as part of their learning experience. So how do we take advantage of this momentum and keep our students engaged? It all comes down to building a "social presence" that connects students and instructors in a way that motivates active participation.

We've learned that displaying and demonstrating high levels of social presence for our faculty preparedness and interventions yielded high success rates over the past two years. And that Faculty Development and Instructional Designers will play an important role in assisting faculty to reintegrate and utilize all the exceptional technological advancements developed over the past two years through online and HyFlex pedagogical practices.

Join us to learn more about social presence and how you can use that and instructor-generated videos to engage your students! Using the Community of Inquiry (CoI), participants will be introduced to the description, value, and design process of Instructor-generated Videos (IGV) and highlight the influence videos have in faculty training on the inclusion of such pedagogical practices in their own course designs (regardless of the modality).

Session Outcomes:
Participants will:
- Practice the skills of Instructors’ Social Presence
- Identify effective practices and a walkthrough of Canvas Studio feature for instructor-generated videos.
- Develop a digital structure for faculty development and Instructional Design Support through “mirroring” a course design.
