Event Overview
Do you have a lot of data but are unsure of how to use it to tell your story? You are not alone. Presenting your data in a visual format that is easy to understand is key to making the right decisions as well as enabling you to effectively communicate your story.

This workshop is part of a series on data. This one will pick up where the first one, Harvesting the Data, left off; however, you do not have taken the previous workshop to benefit fully from the experience that we offer.

In the workshop, you will see some real projects from our own institutions presented and have the opportunity to work in small groups to clean and prepare the data as part of the visualization process. We’ll walk you through setting up Tableau Public on your computers and get acquainted with a fun open data set. Then we’ll learn how to create visualizations that help tell a story about our data; using as much data a possible on your own laptop using Tableau. And finally, we’ll discuss other effective tools that are commonly used in higher-ed to work with data.

The next workshop in this series will be on Driving Action with Data on June 11 at Fairfield University.

Session Outcomes:
By the end of the session, participants should be able to:
- Prepare data for use in visualization.
- Blend multiple data sources.
- Create self-service dashboards.
- Explain general usability and user experience guidelines.
