Defining the Workforce of the Future: Developing and Retaining IT Staff

Kara Amana
Kara is an Associate Director of MBA Technology within the MBA Program at Harvard Business School.  Kara works as an information conduit and tech translator between the central IT group and the MBA Program.  This includes working on many IT projects, including Canvas and a new student portal myHBS.  Kara holds an MS in Organizational and Professional Communication and a BA in English from Regis College.


Tammy Dibble
Tammy is the Director of HR for Finance and Information Technology at Cornell University. Tammy has an extensive background as an HR generalist with over 20 years of experience in employee recruitment and retention, staff development, conflict resolution, compensation, HR position management, and HR policies development and legal compliance.

Tammy received her undergraduate degree from the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell and is pursuing her graduate studies in Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell. Tammy currently serves as the President of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) of Tompkins County chapter and President-Elect for the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) Greater New York chapter.



Debra Howell
Debra is the Director of Information Technology for Infrastructure Properties and Planning at Cornell University, where she oversees the Computing Services and Programming Services groups. She is a creative, dynamic information technology professional who thrives leading and facilitating complex workplace and technology processes, developing talent from within, and collaborating with others to build the most effective computing environment. She has over 17 years of experience providing strategic direction to in all areas of information technology. Debra has an extensive background in facilitation, organizational change, teambuilding, and performance management. Debra received her undergraduate degree in English Education from Wells College and her Masters of Industrial and Labor Relations degree in HR and Organizational Behavior with a concentration in Training and Leadership from Cornell University. She is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE).  She is an officer on two boards of directors:  The Cornell Club of Ithaca and the Friends of the Ithaca Youth Bureau. Additionally, Debra is an Office of the Secretary of Defense Master Trainer and does extensive volunteer work with the Army Reserve Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program.


Deirdre Schreiber
Deirdre is the Senior Training Program Manager for Harvard’s IT Academy.  Deirdre joined Harvard in October 2015 to manage the Harvard IT Academy, a first-ever professional development program for Harvard University’s 1500 IT staff across central administration and the schools.  She is responsible for content creation and delivery for 4 levels of the IT Academy’s 6 core offerings.  She also partners with Harvard’s IT leadership and subject matter experts across the IT workforce to support technical training needs.

Prior to joining Harvard, Deirdre worked with BNY Mellon Wealth Management for 8 years in various roles within their Learning and Development team supporting the 1800 client and prospect facing staff located across the United States, London, and Hong Kong.  In her most recent role, she designed and delivered BNY Mellon Wealth Management’s New Officer Orientation Program (how to articulate BNY Mellon’s services to high-net worth individuals), the Wealth Management Mentoring Program (for high-potential support staff), and technical application training to all wealth management staff. 


Lisa Trubitt
Lisa is the Assistant CIO for Policy & Communications at the University at Albany, SUNY, where she focuses on improving and administering IT services to the University community. Current responsibilities include: IT policy development; internal and external communications; fostering relationships and working with various stakeholder and advisory groups; and strategic planning. Her interests range from the professional development and mentoring of staff to exploring creative solutions for organizational challenges and rethinking the role of IT in higher education. 

The co-founder and former leader of the EDUCAUSE IT Communications Constituent Group (ITCOMM), Trubitt has given numerous presentations and authored articles on the importance of IT communications. Policy-related activities include presentations and service on the former ICPL Advisory Committee. Trubitt is currently the director of the EDUCAUSE Institute Management Program faculty. She has also served on the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference Program and Professional Development Committees. She is currently a member of the NERCOMP Board and faculty for the Workshop Series for Managers Part 2. She is a trustee of the Capital District Library Council (CDLC) and a Frye Leadership Fellow (2007). Trubitt holds a bachelor of arts in English and Criminal Justice and a master of arts in Criminal Justice from the University at Albany.
