Event Overview
Higher education is going through a time of fundamental change.   Tuition costs are high; the demographics of prospective students are decreasing; technology, including online learning, has shifted institutional priorities; students are looking for curricula that will guarantee them a living wage…   Many institutions are tightening their belts and reviewing their personnel and compensation requirements. 

At the same time, the need for skilled workers keeps growing.  Traditional liberal arts curricula are being reviewed or enhanced by “professional programs” to attract students.  At some colleges and universities gaming, cybersecurity, health management and other new programs are really bringing students in. 

Where do you fit?  Are you one of the lucky ones at an institution with expanding enrollments, or are you at a school that is “right-sizing”?   Either way, you are likely to be experiencing significant change in your work.   In career transitions, whether they are the result of layoffs or the desire to move up or do something new, we need to be proactive rather than reactive.  As Wayne Gretzky has said, we should “skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been.”  Are you ready –and prepared-- for transition?

We encourage you to think about how you can THRIVE in this time of perpetual change, as an employee or a manager.  In this workshop we will:
1. Name the problem
2. Discuss the issues and options with a panel of presenters representing different constituencies in higher education
3. Offer break-out sessions related to Career Planning, Developing strategies for maintaining team morale and Embracing change as an individual, and
4. Share methods for building your tool kit

Session Outcomes:
- Develop a greater understanding of the changes taking place in higher education’s work environment
- Be provided an opportunity to have open conversations about the challenges created by these changes
- Learn effective strategies for responding positively to the changing higher ed workplace--as both workers and as managers of workers in higher education
