Virtual Desktops
Speaker: David Blezard
David Blezard is a Senior IT Manager within Academic Technology at the University of New Hampshire. David has managed the Student Computing Clusters at UNH since 1994 and has overseen many transitions and changes in services and technologies during that time. The Academic Computing Systems group that he manages supports the majority of the computer classrooms, computer labs, and related facilities at UNH. In addition, David supports other academic and technology initiatives at the University ranging from rich media creation and delivery to project management systems to web server infrastructure. David has been a frequent contributor to both the NERCOMP annual conference and various SIGs. Two major new efforts he is helping coordinate are implementation of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure and a review of existing student computing and technology services at the University.
Speaker: Matt Connors
Matt Connors is a System Administrator and Developer at the University of New Hampshire Durham campus. He holds a BA in International Business and Economics, a BS in Linguistics, both from UNH and recently completed his Master of Science in Project Management. His portfolio of responsibilities range from new product/service evaluation, development, and implementation to custom OS image creation, deployment, and management; providing reasonable and effective solutions for UNH's cross-functional initiatives.
Speaker: Fabiano Iacusso
I have joined Quinnipiac University as a student in 2001 and earned my degree in Computer Information Systems. Since then, I worked various IS positions within the University while earning my Master’s Degree in Computer Information Systems. I currently hold the position of Assistant Director of Systems, Technology & Planning which focuses on the Server and SAN infrastructure necessary to support our environments application and data needs. Throughout my career at Quinnipiac, I have been involved in various projects such as our Core Network Re-Design, Server Virtualization initiatives, Exchange/Lync Implementations, Data Center Re-Design, and now virtualizing the client’s complete user environment.
Speaker: Pete Larimer
Pete Larimer is a Senior IT Manager within the Enterprise Computing Group at the University of New Hampshire. His team’s focus in addition to collaboration & messaging services includes providing campus departments with infrastructure services such as VMware, server hosting, file serving, and so forth. Pete has been a presenter at the NERCOMP annual conference for his team's implementation of SharePoint 2010 at UNH.
Speaker: Tony Molloy
Tony Molloy is head of IT for the University of Connecticut Libraries, which provides storage, servers, and end user computing solutions for students, faculty, and staff at the main UConn campus and across the 5 regional campus libraries.
Speaker: Rick O'Toole
Rick O’Toole is the Public Computing Coordinator for the UConn Libraries. Since January 2000, Rick has been responsible for maintaining over 370 computers running Windows and Mac in labs, classrooms, and collaborative spaces within 9 libraries on 6 campuses. In addition, we provide patrons with a network printing option using Uniprint. In the last couple of years Rick has transitioned the libraries’ public computing from desktops to virtual PCs using VMware. Today, with a mix of zero client devices and “thin desktop” hybrid machines connecting to virtual machines we have been able to reduce the amount of time in cloning, updating, and supporting hardware problems.
Speaker: Chris Pycko
Chris Pycko is an Information Technologist within Academic Technology at the University of New Hampshire. Chris has helped maintain the Student Computing Clusters at UNH since 2005 and has been very involved with operating system and application deployments. The Academic Computing Systems group that he helps support has involvement in the majority of the computer classrooms, computer labs, and related facilities at UNH. Two major new efforts he is helping with are implementation of Virtual Desktops and Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager.
Speaker: Lawrence Salay
Lawrence Salay is an IT professional with nearly 25 years of experience in the field, with the past 14 years in Higher Education Information Technology.
He currently works as Director of Information Technology for Gateway Community College in New Haven CT, a position he has held since 2005. Mr. Salay was integral to the planning and building of the college’s new state-of-the-art campus that was opened in Sept. 2012. The campus features more than 30 high tech classrooms. 4 large open computer labs, a Library Learning Commons, 100 smart classrooms and a 120-station thin client deployment. This new campus has 2000 computers and more than 500 associated peripherals. The campus network manages most major functions of the campus, including the VOIP system, HVAC, building controls, security cameras and lecture capture. The back-end infrastructure includes a 10GB fiber backbone and enterprise-level chassis switches to ensure peak performance. The campus also has full wireless coverage for students to use with their mobile devices.
Mr. Salay holds an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix (2004), and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY.
Speaker: Ed Swindelles
Ed Swindelles is the Manager of Advanced Computing in the School of Engineering at the University of Connecticut. In this role, Ed is responsible for major initiatives at both the school and university level. His recent initiatives include: VDI, High Performance Computing (HPC), distance learning, and enterprise storage and virtualization.
