Women In IT Leadership: Why Women Succeed More Often in the Higher Education Environment
Speaker: Elizabeth Clark
As the Managing Director of the Educational Technology Group (ETG) at Harvard Business School (HBS), Beth provides leadership and direction for ETG, as well as educational technology initiatives at HBS. Before coming to HBS, she served as Director of the Instructional Design and eTeaching Services (IDeS) organization at Boston College (BC), where she grew IDeS from its inception to a robust organization serving the wide variety of BC’s instructional technology needs. In addition to her past 15 years of experience in academic technology, she also spent time as a web development consultant for a variety of non-profit organizations around the Northeast. Her earlier professional background includes federal and state policy analysis, and planning and program management for human service organizations, which has driven her interest for integrating technology into social service and academic settings.
Active in the instructional and information technology professional development communities, Beth's past involvements have included co-coordinating the Boston-area EdTech group, serving on the Program Committee for and chairing the Northeast Regional Computing Program (NERCOMP) Annual Conference, as well as serving on the NERCOMP Board of Trustees.
Speaker: Omaira Roy
Omaira Roy is Director of Human Resources at Mount Ida College in Newton, MA. A human resources professional with nearly twenty years of experience in the field, she has spent the greater part of her career in the higher education landscape. She has extensive experience managing searches and has participated in and led salary negotiations for positions at every level of the organization including faculty, senior administrators and cabinet level positions including vice presidents and presidents. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Suffolk University and is a board member of the Southern New England College and University Personnel Association.
Speaker: Melissa Woo
Melissa Woo works at the University of Oregon as the Vice Provost for Information Services & Chief Information Officer, responsible for IT strategic planning and governance, IT enterprise services, research computing, middleware & identity management, IT infrastructure & operations, network & telecommunications. She oversees the campus central IT organization, the Network for Education and Research in Oregon (NERO), and the UO Advanced Network Technology Center (ANTC).
Prior to her position at the University of Oregon, Melissa worked for the central IT organizations at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Recipient of the EDUCAUSE 2012 Rising Star Award, Melissa is a Frye Leadership Institute (now known as the Leading Change Institute) Fellow, currently chairs the EDUCAUSE Advisory Group on Enterprise Information Systems and Services (AEGISS), served on the EDUCAUSE 2012 Conference Program Committee, and served on the EDUCAUSE Professional Development Advisory Committee, chairing the committee in 2010. She completed her PhD in Biophysics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and her Bachelor's degree in Biophysics at the University of California, Berkeley.
