Better, Faster, Stronger: Developing Student Employees

Karin Moyano Camihort
Karin currently serves as the Dean of Online Learning and Academic Initiatives at Holyoke Community College HCC. Previously, she worked at the Center for Teaching & Faculty Development at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, UMASS-AMHERST (2008-2012), was the Educational Technologist at Springfield College (2005-2008), and the Information Technology Specialist at the Five Colleges, Inc. (1997-2005). Dr. Karin Moyano Camihort heads Online Learning by creating and establishing a unified vision for HCC Online. She leads the growth and scale of HCC's innovative and academically rigorous online learning initiatives. Dr. Moyano Camihort has led research and development efforts that take advantage of emerging technologies to enable programs, faculty, and students to transform teaching and learning. Her area of research includes the exploration of successful pedagogies for instructional technologies and educational innovation. I am currently a member of the Educause Top-Ten IT Issues Panel and the Breakthrough Models Academy.


Chris Chagnon
Chris is a ITSM Application and Web Developer at Worcester Polytechnic Institute who is also pursuing his PhD in User Experience and Decision Making with respect to IT Service Management and Internet of Things. Chris has worked in the IT Field for over a decade producing award winning systems for innovating and streamlining the service management systems while helping to improve the service experience.


Andrea Picard
Andrea currently serves as the Coordinator of Experiential Learning at Holyoke Community College. During her tenure at HCC, Andrea has assisted a diverse population of students with assessing and identifying appropriate career paths based on assessments, counseling, personal and professional goals. From 2008-2011, Andrea led a project ​in collaboration with colleagues from the 15 Massachusetts ​community colleges​ that culminated in the publication of the MCC Experiential Education: Internships and Cooperative Education, A Handbook for Practitioners and Administrators. Most recently, Andrea conducted a campus-wide Needs Assessment ​Study ​that resulted in the implementation of a new ExL model. In collaboration with faculty, staff and external agencies, Andrea identified tools, best practices and resources ​that ​foster faculty participation; student accountability and preparedness; and ​the ​best practices ​proposed by the National Association of Colleges and Employers Career Readiness Competencies.


Rachel Riley-Schafer
Rachel is the Service Desk Student Supervisor at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where she has received her Masters in Management. In her role, she manages the Service Desk student workers while applying skills from her background in coaching basketball. This unique, and effective, approach scored her the HDI Support Analyst of the Year recognition from the HDI New England Chapter.
