Event Overview
Have you ever felt frustrated in a conversation with a faculty member? Wished you knew the secret to moving a faculty member from reluctant to excited about working with technology or tackling a new project? If you are an instructional designer, technologist, librarian – and someone whose work depends on effectively communicating with faculty in order to provide technical support, initiate new projects or advance innovation on their campus, and this resonates, then this workshop is for you.

Using an applied training approach centered on the award-winning Competent Communicator model approved by the National Communication Association, this day-long workshop engages participants through guided activities to practice effective conversation, discussion and feedback strategies for interaction with faculty from all disciplines.

Much like star athletes are grown from committed training – competent communicators emerge from great rehearsals. You will be expected to conduct live, out-loud rehearsals as part of the session. This approach to learning, engaging, practicing and rehearsing will enable you to be more confident about your communication as well as provide you with a toolkit for future conversations with faculty.

Session Outcomes:
Participants will be able to:
  - Plan with confidence for effective faculty conversations.
  - Identify strategies to rehearse and improve on communication techniques.
  - Apply the Competent Communicator model to move faculty to action for campus projects.
