Uncommon Team: The Story of Managing a Student Run Help Desk

Alberto DeAngelis
Alberto DeAngelis is a Technical Trainer in the Manhattan College ITS Department. He develops and presents both online and in-person training courses/sessions for students, faculty, and staff which address a variety of different technology topics. Alberto’s technical acumen translates into being an excellent video editor. His background in videography and film editing has allowed him to develop over a dozen training videos. Alberto also takes part in the initiative for developing training courses that instruct new student employees on various procedures and technicals skills. He develops a variety of training materials and has written many technical Knowledge Base Articles to support the Manhattan College community. Alberto has presented at several higher education conferences on the topic of digital accessibility. In addition, he has programmed a Google Dialogflow Chat Bot for ITS to help alleviate basic troubleshooting tickets. Alberto is currently pursuing a B.S. in Computer Engineering and is also the President of the JasperBots Robotics Club.


Andrew Januszak
Andrew Januszak is a Senior Computing Consultant in Library & Technology Services (LTS) at Lehigh University. Andrew supervises the LTS Help Desk student consultants, provides tier-2 computing support, serves as a representative for the University's Sustainability Council, and is staff adviser/beekeeper for the student beekeeping club. Andrew holds a BA from Kutztown University and an MSLIS from Long Island University. 


Ann Marie Krupski
Ann Marie Krupski is the Director of Constituency Services at Trinity College in Hartford, CT. Ann Marie currently manages the Information Services Desk, a merged service point which includes IT helpdesk, ID card office and library circulation and access services. She has worn many hats during her 25-year career at Trinity, including supporting the academic computing needs of faculty, combining a Facilities and IT merged service point, and a campus project to install 5,000+ electronic locks and new campus ID cards. In all of the roles she has played, she recognizes how critical student staff have been to her organization’s success, and has enjoyed the process of helping these students grow and develop into their chosen professional careers.


Susanne Leavey
Susanne Leavey is the IT Training Coordinator for Manhattan College. From 2015-2019 she worked in the elementary setting and began her journey in Higher Ed in 2020 at Manhattan College. She has a strong background in instructional planning and implementation as a former educator. Susanne is responsible for the creation, delivery, and supervision of a number of IT related topics including: the campus IT Knowledge Management materials and training materials for the ITS student workers. She works closely with her colleagues to make sure the Manhattan College campus has the informational resources and tools they need to succeed in our modern world! 


Kate Surkin
Katie is the Senior Manager for Client Relationships & Support at Bryn Mawr College. In her role, she is responsible for the people and operations of the Help Desk, the Desktop Support Team, the Circulation Desk at the main library, and the College Operators. A key part of this role allows Katie to delve into one of her favorite topics: customer service! Of particular interest are the ways in which leaders and managers can improve the service experience for both employees and end users.

When she isn’t working with her team to provide the best sustainable service to the College community, Katie can be found trying out new recipes and restaurants, reading cozy mysteries, and dreaming of her next Disney vacation.
