11:00am - 11:45am   A Deep Dive Into a Successful Online Course
Speaker: Josh Blumberg, Director of Academic Technology, Champlain College

We will be taking a deep dive into a single online course from Champlain College.  We will be looking at all aspects of the course design from the curriculum design process, through the design of lectures and activities and the use of custom interactives.  One of the objectives of the ""Introduction to Computer Systems"" course was to teach problem solving and so we will look in particular at how well the course achieves this objective.  The course pushes the limits of Canvas customizations and leverages OER resources to create a top notch learning experience for students.

Attendees will come away with:
- A straightforward workable backward design process for creating an online course from learning objectives, including planning forms
- An method for structuring an online course and assignments to minimize student confusion and maximize learning
- An appreciation for how far Canvas can be extended with custom CSS and JS
- An appreciation for how OER materials can be remixed into Canvas"

12:45pm - 1:30pm   Online tutoring in Canvas? Welcome to eTutoring!
Speakers:
Kris Bickell
, Director of Online Learning, University of Bridgeport
Kevin Corcoran, Executive Director, Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium

Would your students benefit from connecting with an online tutor from within their Canvas course? The Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium (CTDLC) and the University of Bridgeport (UB) recently partnered to build an LTI integration that makes eTutoring available in Canvas. UB has used eTutoring since 2013 but wanted to make the service more accessible through Canvas as part of a strategic retention initiative. Students now have eTutoring available within a wide range of courses in Canvas.

What is eTutoring? It is an online tutoring platform which allows tutors to work with students synchronously and asynchronously, answering questions in real time, or replying to questions and essay submissions that students have left for review and commentary. Currently, eTutoring is used across North America in over 130 two and four-year, public and private colleges and universities.

Learning outcomes:
- To learn how eTutoring works
- To learn how eTutoring is part of UB’s retention initiative
- To see how LTI connects eTutoring to Canvas
