Event Overview
Many of us deal with contracts with little or no support from actual lawyers. Even if your institution does have counsel available, they may have no experience with intellectual property law or the specific concerns around “cloud” services. What was already a difficult task has been made even more critical with the number of “cloud” services in our contracts portfolio. This session will provide the basics, and a little more, of what to look for in contracts for technology services, and how to interpret the legalese. Topics to be covered will include: Protecting confidentiality, Securing your data (and making sure you can get it back), Who takes responsibility for what, and some best practices for how to manage the process. We will also review some of the resources available for free to support you.

Session Outcomes:
Attendees will learn to read and redline legal contracts for technology services and be aware of both the major pitfalls the vendor’s lawyers try to trick you into, and the things you should be concerned about that the vendor (and their lawyers) may not have thought about.
