Data Governance and Institutional Business Intelligence

Moderator: Nancy Bull

Since August, 2011, Nancy H. Bull has served as the Vice Provost for Information Technology and CIO. From July 1, 2008-August, 2012, she served as Vice Provost, Academic Administration. Prior to July 2008, she served for 14 years as the associate dean and associate director of the Connecticut Cooperative Extension System at UConn. Dr. Bull worked as an assistant state leader in small business development at The Ohio State University and as a county extension agent, Greene County, Ohio for 14 years. Nancy has taught at the graduate, undergraduate as well as high school and junior high school levels. Dr. Bull has a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Extension Education from The Ohio State University and her master’s and bachelor degrees from the University of Cincinnati. 


Speaker: Ora Fish

Ora is an Executive Director, Program Services Office at New York University responsible for developing strategy and leading the University Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence Program at NYU.

In 2001 Ora initiated the Data Warehouse initiative at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to address the reporting and analytical needs of campus leadership. In 2006 the project won the “Best Practices In Business Intelligence” Computerworld Award and was named by InfoWord among the 100 Most Innovative Corporate IT Solutions.

Ora has earned her Bachelor degree in Math and Computer Science from Tel-Aviv University, Israel and Master in Business Administration (MBA) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Ora has taught data warehouse and business intelligence implementation strategies at The Data Warehouse Institute – TDWI, Educause, and CampusTechnology. She has given numerous key notes and presentations on the topics of data warehousing, business intelligence, data governance, and managing changes to analytical culture. Ora is the past President of the Higher Education Data Warehouse Forum and a co-leader of the Decision Support group at Educause.
 

Speaker: Hugh McCabe

Hugh is the Manager of the Data Warehouse at Syracuse University and is responsible for developing and implementing a strategy for transitioning from operational reporting to analytics and business intelligence.

Hugh created the Health Care Analysis and Data Warehouse Program at Univera HealthCare. In 1999 the program won the “Best Practices for Medium Sized Company” award from the Data Warehouse Institute. In 2000 Hugh was named as a “Premier 100 IT Leader” by Computerworld Magazine.

Hugh is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute and as a Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems by the Health Information Management Systems Society.

Hugh earned his Bachelors degree in Political Science from the State University of New York College at Cortland and a Masters degree in Political Science from the State University of New York at Binghamton.

Hugh resides in Central New York with his wife and two sons. 


Speaker: Ravi Ravishanker

Ganesan (Ravi) Ravishanker began his career as an Higher Ed IT Professional at Wesleyan after completing his PhD and postdoctoral work in computational chemistry and a Masters in Computer Science. He worked at Wesleyan from 1986-2009 in various roles in IT and from 2006-2009 as the Assistant VP for ITS. He then worked as the CIO in Pace University in NY until Nov 2010, when he moved to his current position as the CIO at Wellesley College managing a merged Library-IT organization. These diverse experiences will help him contribute in a unique way to NERCOMP membership from a leadership role.
Ravi is very interested in new and emerging technologies and their application to teaching and learning. He also is an active participant in social media and has actively tweeted during NERCOMP SIGs, as well as NERCOMP and EDUCAUSE annual conferences. Ravi has been blogging about technology topics as well as managing large Higher Ed technology organizations - http://blogs.wellesley.edu/ravisblog.

He thoroughly enjoys playing golf and angry birds (on his iPad), listening to Tamil film music, and wasting his time watching Tamil films.
