Innovations in Training your Student Staff
Speaker: Adam Bray
Adam Bray works in the Student Technology Collaborative at Yale, where he leads the Student Developer program. In this role, he teaches open classes to Yale students in web application development (in Ruby on Rails). He also manages student-developed, software projects across multiple platforms (primarily web and iOS).
Prior to launching the Student Developer program, Adam spent four years managing the Student Tech program at Yale (student-provided tech support). He received his Bachelor of Science in Physics from Yale University in 2007.
Speaker: Mimi Royston
Mimi Royston is the Associate Director of Information Technology, Director of User Services, Adjunct Faculty Member and IT Security Officer at Assumption College. Ms. Royston is an experienced leader with a strong technical background, developed over the past 20 years as an information technology professional. She has both depth and breadth in IT management and operational experience in the following areas: networking, server management, security, helpdesk, desktop support, training, web support and instructional technology. Mimi was the principal investigator of an NSF HPNC grant (in 2003), which helped the College build access to Internet2. She has presented at Nercomp, ResNet, ADAPT, and other higher education conferences on wide variety of topics. Mimi holds CISSP certification and an M.B.A. from Assumption College.
Speaker: Loriann Seluga
Loriann Seluga is the Associate Director of the Student Technology Collaborative at Yale University. Her responsibilities include oversight of a number of programs utilized by students: personal computing support, shared computing labs, media equipment checkout, and student web application development. She works closely with many ITS units to ensure that student needs are represented in IT decisions.
Lori received her Bachelor of Science in Materials Science & Engineering from MIT in 2000, and worked at MIT as the Residential Computing Consultant Supervisor prior to coming to Yale. Lori is very active in the ResNet community, serving on the Steering Committee/Board of Directors from 2005-2012, including as the co-host of the 2011 ResNet Student Technology Conference and as President from 2011-2012.
Speaker: Tom St. John
Tom St. John is the IT Support Center Manager at Assumption College. Mr. St. John has a strong technical background developed over the past 15 years as an information technology professional. He has held a number of positions within IT and has experience in networking, desktop support, training and customer support. Tom currently oversees training for all student workers in IT. He works closely with all IT&MS areas to insure customer resolution.
Tom has presented at HDI, ResNet, and Nercomp on helpdesk, residential networking support and student management. He holds a B.F.A. from Massachusetts College of Art and a MA/CAGS from Assumption College.
Speaker: Judi Vellucci
Judi Vellucci has over 20 years of experience in customer support in an academic environment. She has managed the student staffed walk in center and in room support at Tufts for the past 15 years. Each year her program creates and launches an intensive 3 day training program to prepare the student staff to assist more than 1300 clients each year with computer issues. Judi is a return SIG instructor and has presented on a wide range of student support topics including, training, team building, DMCA response and student staff management at ResNet, ACUHO-I and at various regional higher education IT meetings.
