At Marlboro College, a tiny residential liberal arts college in rural Vermont, the library is an integral part of students’ lives, both academically and socially. Creative partnerships between the library and the offices of Admissions, Residence Life, and Alumni Relations provide an opportunity for positive interactions with and support of students at all points in the enrollment cycle -- from recruitment to retention to post-graduation engagement.
The focus of this presentation will be a series of highly successful events co-sponsored by the Library and Residence Life. We’ll describe our collaborative process for event planning (which includes students), talk about attendance and outcomes, and discuss the importance of academic/social programming on a small, isolated, bookish campus.

Mirna Turcios, Library Assistant, Simmons College
Shanti and Mima will present on Simmon’s efforts to develop a more holistic and systematic approach to collaborations with Student Life and other Academic Services, and how student-driven requests have helped serve as catalysts for these efforts. The Library has collaborated with Student Life to offer Late Night Library Laser Tag, A Literary Walking Tour of Boston, DIY Snickers Bars, an Online Filter Bubble workshop for Simmons Student Health Educators, and partnered with academic departments to produce and market a Streaming Media Modern Language Film Festival.
