Peer to Peer Outreach: Involving Students in Library Operations and Promotion
Speaker: James Burke
James is the Library, Information and Technology Services Liaison for the Social Sciences at Mount Holyoke College, where he provides a wide range of support for students and faculty in research, learning and teaching. He has coordinated the student worker program for the Research and Instructional Support team at Mount Holyoke. This cadre of over forty students assists users at the library research desk, the multimedia lab, the arts technology lab, and in the technology and research mentors program. James has a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and has worked at Mount Holyoke College since 2001.
Speaker: Pamela Contakos
Pamela Contakos is the Digital Services Librarian at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts where she develops and coordinates library technology-based operations, services, and projects and uses traditional and emerging technologies to enable the library to deliver innovative and student-focused access, reference, and instruction services. She holds an MLS from Syracuse University and is currently pursuing an M.Ed in Instructional Design from UMass Boston. Speaker: Elizabeth Dolinger
Elizabeth Dolinger is a faculty Information Literacy Librarian at the Mason Library at Keene State College. She leads the development, assessment, and teaching of integrated information literacy programs. She lead the development of the Mason Library’s minor in Information Studies which will begin in fall 2015. She developed a Research & Technology Fellows program that connects student’s academic interests with their work experience. She is interested in integrative approaches to program development and assessment, the use of “high-impact” practices in libraries, the development of critical literacies, the role of librarians as educators, and how the landscape of higher education affects librarians work. Previously as Research Services Librarian at Landmark College Library she developed an information literacy program for students with learning disabilities and/or ADHD. Elizabeth has served as co-chair of the New England Library Instruction Group and provides workshops and presentations on pedagogy, program design, and assessment.
Speaker: Irene McGarrity
Irene McGarrity is the Academic Technology Librarian at Keene State College. Her research interests include innovative teaching practices, metaliteracy, and metafiction. She has taught writing and literature courses at various institutions in New York, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. Irene has an MA in English Literature from SUNY New Paltz and an MS in Information Studies from University at Albany. Speaker: Maureen Scoones
Maureen Scoones is the Associate Director of IT Process Improvement and Education in Library & Information Technology Services at Hamilton College. In her role, she collaborates with administrative offices to improve business processes and with instructional technologists and librarians to help faculty incorporate information and technology resources into teaching, learning and research. She also coordinates LITS communication efforts and oversees technology education opportunities and annual ITS assessment activities.
Maureen is a Frye Fellow (2008). She has made presentations at ACRL, EDUCAUSE, NERCOMP, CLAC, and ACM-SIGUCCS. She earned a B.A. in Mathematics and an M.S. in Higher Education Administration from Syracuse University.
Speaker: Kristin Strohmeyer
Kristin Strohmeyer is the Research and Outreach Librarian at Hamilton College. Kristin is the departmental liaison for many humanities departments and history, providing instruction and research assistance to those faculty and students. She is actively involved in instruction and outreach to the college campus and beyond. She is past-president of the Eastern New York Chapter of ACRL, and is a member of the American Library Association’s Library Instruction Round Table. Kristin received her B.A. in English Literature and Medieval History from Potsdam College in New York, and her M.S. in Library Science from Simmons College in Boston.
Speaker: Ivy Tilman
Ivy is the Library, Information and Technology Services (LITS) Coordinator of Student Technology Assistants at Mount Holyoke College, where she provides a wide range of support for guests to the public spaces in the LITS complex. She coordinates the 20+ consultants for Community Technical Support at Mount Holyoke, including Peer2Peer teachers, consultants for the Technology HelpDesk and for the CTS Call Center. Ivy is an alumnae of Mount Holyoke College, and has worked at the college since 1992.
Speaker: Kerri Vautour
Kerri Vautour is the outreach librarian at Springfield College’s Babson Library, where she focuses on promoting the library’s services to the college community and collaborating with student, faculty and staff groups on campus. She is also a reference librarian and serves as a liaison to the humanities and social sciences departments. Previously, she supervised virtual reference for the library’s public services department, managing the quality and organizing the logistics for email, chat, and text. She shared a poster version of this presentation at the Association of College and Research Libraries New England Chapter Annual Conference in May 2015.
