Event Overview
Modernizing campus communications is as much about people and process as it is about technology. This session takes an in-depth look at Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s successful transition from a legacy PBX environment to Zoom Phone, a modern, cloud-based communications platform.

Attendees will learn how WPI approached technical implementation, service readiness, and change management in a coordinated way to improve reliability, enhance the user experience, and streamline operations. The session will highlight planning strategies, cross-departmental collaboration, and ongoing assessment practices that support a smooth rollout and strong community adoption. Participants will leave with practical insights, lessons learned, and transferable strategies they can apply to their own campus communications modernization efforts.
 

Session Outcomes:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
 - Describe the end-to-end transition process from traditional PBX systems to Zoom Phone, including key milestones, challenges, and success measures.
 - Apply effective stakeholder engagement and change-management strategies that support adoption and build community trust during large-scale communications transformations.
 - Leverage best practices in planning, documentation, and resource management to inform future telecommunications or infrastructure modernization projects.
