Both small and large institutions face the ubiquitous need to do “more with less.” This concept often leads to overburdened staff members, which in turn reflects upon both the quality of service and the ability to produce the best possible product. In a field as diverse and demanding as Higher Education these issues can be especially prevalent. However, a practical solution to this challenge is literally staring us in the face: students. A highly trained group of talented students can take the pressure of the day-to-day off the shoulders of full-time staff, leaving them with more time to focus on big picture projects and long overdue upgrades. The trouble, of course, is getting there. Join us as we discuss the benefits and challenges of a student-centric workforce, including training regiments, accountability, and the impact on our ability to adapt to the ever-changing needs of our faculty, staff, and students.
